Prof. Ahsan is the recipient of “NISHAN-E-AIZAZ” (Symbol of Honour) (2025) for his
contribution to education; “RESEARCH EXCELLENCE AWARD” (2023); “OUTSTANDING
NOBEL RESEARCH AWARD” (2023); “EXCELLENCE SERVICE AWARD” (2022);
“DISTINGUISHED SCIENTIST AWARD” (2020); “ASIAN EDUCATION AWARD” (2020)
for contribution to education community; “LIFE TIME ACHIEVEMENT AWARD” (2019);
“NISHAN-E-AZAD” (2017) for promotion of Science in Urdu; “The International EINSTEIN
AWARD for Scientific Achievement” (2011); “RASHTRIYA GAURAV AWARD” (2007);
“SHIKSHA RATTAN PURASKAR” (2007); and “THE BEST CITIZENS Of INDIA AWARD”
(2006, 2007, 2008). He is Member of Research Board of Advisers, American Biography Institute
(USA) and the President of Tensor Society of India since 2017. He had been the Editor-in-Chief
of Aligarh Bulletin of Mathematics (2012-2015), Editor-in-Chief of Journal of Tensor Society of
India (2010-2012) and Managing Editor of Aligarh Bulletin of Mathematics (1998-2012). Prof.
Ahsan is the Managing Editor of Palestine Journal of Mathematics and , Editor of Journal of
Interpolation and Approximation in Scientific Computing; and is the Member of Editorial Boards
of Global Journal of Advanced Research on Classical and Modern Geometries, International e
Journal of Numerical Analysis and related topics, Taif Journal of Mathematics and Statistics,
Islamic University of Gaza Journal of Natural and Engineering Studies, Bulletin and Journal of
Calcutta Mathematical Society; Reviewer of Mathematical Reviews; and also Referee of various
journals of mathematics and physics. Prof. Ahsan is the President of Anjuman Faroogh-e-Science
(Association for Promotion of Science), Aligarh branch; a member of Urdu core committee of
Vigyan Prasar (Govt. of India). Dr. Zafar Ahsan was a Visiting Associate of Inter-University
Centre of Astronomy and Astrophysics (IUCAA), Pune (July 1996-June 2005); an UGC Visiting
Professor at Sardar Patel University, Vallabh Vidyanagar (April 2004-May 2005); Visiting
Professor at University Sains Islam, Malaysia (USIM) (Oct-Dec, 2016); a Research Fellow at
Institute Sains Islam, (USIM) Malaysia (April 2018-Oct 2019); and Visiting Professor of
Mathematics at Maulana Azad National Urdu University, Hyderabad (Jan. 2020– March 2021).
He is also life member of Indian Association for General Relativity and Gravitation, Calcutta
Mathematical Society, Indian Society of Industrial and Applied Mathematics, Indian
Mathematical Society and Tensor Society of India; a founder member of International Electronic
Engineering Mathematical Society (Egypt).
Prof. Ahsan received his education (from Class I to Ph. D.) from Aligarh Muslim University
(AMU) and obtained his B. Sc. (Hons.) (1968), M.Sc. (1973), M.Phil. (1976), and Ph.D. (1979) in
Mathematics. He joined the department of mathematics at AMU in 1978 as a Lecturer, became
Reader in 1992, and served as a Professor from 2000 to 2016 (served as the Chairman of the
department during 2012-2015). Prof. Zafar Ahsan has been working on gravitational waves, exact
solutions to Einstein's equations, symmetries of space-time, and geometric structures in general
relativity. He has till now participated in 116 conferences in India and abroad and has presented
his work as an invited speaker in 95 conferences. He has so far published 105 research papers in
national and international journals of repute; and has published 07 books entitled “Differential
Equations and Their Applications” (1999, Second Edition 2004, Third Edition 2016), “Vector
Analysis” (2003), “Mathematical Methods” (2005/2018), “Tensor Analysis with Applications”
(2008), “Tensors: Mathematics of Differential Geometry and Relativity” (2015), “The Potential of
Fields in Einstein’s Theory of Gravitation” (2019) and “Tauzeehi Farhang (Riyazi) (2019)
(Glossary of Mathematics in Urdu language)”. Some of his books are prescribed as textbooks in
most Indian universities and some foreign universities. His book on Differential Equations (3rd
Edition, Nineteenth printing, 2021) is a best seller since 1999.
Prof. Zafar Ahsan has visited Pakistan (1980), Italy (1985), Bangladesh (1986), Libya (1989), Iran
(2004), Japan (2007), Russia (2010) and Malaysia (2011, 2016 and 2017) to deliver invited talks
at international conferences. He has also been delivering lectures at a number of refresher courses
on mathematics as well as popular lectures on mathematics held at AMU and other Indian
universities (more than 122 places in India and abroad).
His current research interest, apart from General Relativity and Gravitation, is on Qur’an, Science
and Modern Cosmology; and he has delivered public lectures on this topics at a number of places
in India and abroad.
