Xianming L. Han
Butler University
USA
Xianming L. Han is a professor of physics and astronomy at Butler University, Indianapolis, Indiana, USA, where he has taught and conducted research since 1991. He earned his B.S. in physics from the University of Science and Technology of China and both his M.S. and Ph.D. from the University of Colorado, Boulder, Colorado, USA.
Dr. Han’s research spans observational astronomy, optical and atomic physics, and advanced experimental techniques. His current focus includes asteroid rotational dynamics and the study of eclipsing binary stars, while earlier work explored laser spectroscopy, non-linear optics, and electron–atom collisions. He has published extensively in leading journals such as The Astrophysical Journal, Monthly Notices of the Royal Astronomical Society, and New Astronomy, contributing to more than a hundred peer-reviewed papers on topics ranging from superfluorescence to stellar magnetic activity.
At Butler, Dr. Han has taught a wide range of undergraduate courses and chaired the Department of Physics and Astronomy from 2008 to 2017.
Committed to mentoring and outreach, Dr. Han coordinates regional science competitions and frequently delivers invited talks at universities and international conferences. Through his blend of teaching excellence, pioneering research, and global collaboration, he continues to inspire students and advance knowledge in physics and astronomy.
